Suunto Dive Computer Class Action Settlement For Certain Dive Computers

Sunnto has settled a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. for particular dive computer models that were found defective. If you are one of the customers who purchased new Sunnto dive computers that have defective depth pressure sensors distributed by Aqua Lung, then you are eligible to claim for the settlement. The inaccurate depth and poor temperature readings can be very dangerous for scuba divers.

While both Sunnto and Aqua Lung denied any wrongdoing and defect found in their products, the parties decided to resolve the matter before these issues were shifted to the court. Sunnto’s claim doesn’t cover claims of wrongful death or personal injuries that may have caused due to the alleged defect.

The settlement covers the devices manufactured between January 1st, 2006 and August 10th, 2018. These include the following devices:

  • Cobra, Cobra 2, Cobra 3, Cobra 3 Black
  • Vyper, Vyper Novo, Vyper 2, Vyper Air
  • HelO2
  • Gekko
  • Vytec, Vytec DS
  • Zoop, Zoop Novo
  • Mosquito
  • D4, D6, D9, D4i, D4i Novo, D6i Novo, D9tx, and DX.

Class members who still possess their dive computers will get a free replacement or repair. Class members who discarded their devices due to the defect will obtain reimbursement.

Are you Eligible?

You are eligible for making your claim, if you purchased a dive computer manufactured between Jan. 1, 2006 and Aug. 10, 2018. You can check if you purchase your devices within the mentioned period using the serial number.

The serial number is available in different formats:

  • 6 & 8 digits: the first number is the last digit of the year of manufacture, except for serial numbers starting with ’99’.
  • 10 digits: First two numbers represent the last two digits of the year of manufacture.
  • Serial number beginning with ’99’: the third number is the last digit of the year of manufacture.

All products with 8-digit serial numbers that have ‘7’ as the fourth digit were built after January 1, 2006. If 8-digit serial numbers miss a ‘7’ as the fourth digit, the first digit is the last digit of the manufacture year.

Proof of Purchase

To make your claim for repair or replacement, you must have the serial number, date, and place of the purchase of the product. You also have to show supporting proof of purchase documents including a credit card statement, purchase receipt, product box, shipping receipt, etc. If you want to make a claim for reimbursement, you must provide as much information as possible.
