Carolina First Bank Job Bias Class Action Settlement

First Bank of California has agreed to pay $450,000 to resolve the case against it. The lawsuit against it claims about discrimination against African American job applicants.

However, the  African American people who applied for a job at First Bank between April 29, 2010, and April 30, 2011, could get compensation. The applicant who did not come in the list of the hiring process due their credit history may file the claim before deadline.

Case summary:

In February 2011, the plaintiff Regina Robinson filed a case aginst Carolina First Bank about discrimination against some selected people. Moreover, he also filed charge against bank about its interest inTD Bank in the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

Robinson claimed that Carolina First Bank did discrimination with Aferican American applicants on the basis of their  credit deatils. He alleged taht it is a clear violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

But, in October 2011, the EEOC dismissed the plaintiff’s complaint but  in January 2012 the EEOC reconsidered the complaint.

However, in January 2015, the EEOC found that there was enough evidence against teh bank. The EEOC concluded that Carolina First Bank’s credit check practices put bad effect on African American applicants through April 30, 2011.

Since then the Robinson and TD Bank tried hard to reach a settlement. Finally they  released $450,000 to setlle the lawsuit against tehm. The Class Members can recover thousands of dollars from the Carolina First Bank settlement.

The class members who were employed at the time of their job application, they can get a payment of $2,500. Moreover, those who were unemployed, may get $1,000 for each month of unemployment and maximum up to $25,000.

The one who want to exclude themself fronm the settlement or who want to object teh settlement can do so before  April 26, 2019. The final approval hearing is scheduled for June 18, 2019.
