A class action lawsuit is coming up from a data breach that has been announced by Anthem in February 2015. According to this class action lawsuit, Anthem made an announcement that due a cyber attack, the information stored in their databases has been subjected to theft. The information included that data of 79 people, and these data components including names, date of birth, health care ID number, social security numbers, and employment information.

This lawsuit has accused Anthem and other companies, including Anthem’s subsidiaries, Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies in being unsuccessful to safeguard the data of their clients. Now, with this lawsuit, the Anthem Inc. and other health benefits companies have agreed to pay $115 million to settle this class action lawsuit.

The defendants deny any wrongdoing, but still, they have agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid the expenses of ongoing litigation. Moreover, Anthem has also agreed to change its business properties to improve the security of their customer’s data stored on their databases. They will also establish a $115 million fund to offer the payment for extra losses that were suffered by the class members.
