AppFolio, the rental property company, agreed to pay $4.5 million as a settlement amount to resolve the case against it. The lawsuit claims that AppFolio did not identify the source of information that it provided to the consumers \u2018credit report. The class action states that the company violates federal law.<\/p>\n

The Class Members come under settlement are those who were the subject of consumer report prepared by AppFolio between Sept. 27, 2015, and Aug. 10, 2018. The consumer report prepared by AppFolio contained public record information.<\/p>\n

Also, all those class members who requested their information from AppFolio come under the settlement. But, the company had sent them a copy of a consumer report by the third party.<\/p>\n

Complaint Filed By the Plaintiff<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The Plaintiff Anthony Leo filed a case against AppFolio Inc. and claiming that the company violated the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The FCRA is a federal law which ensures fairness, accuracy, and privacy of consumer information in credit reports.<\/p>\n

Further, Leo claims that AppFolio selling tenant screening reports to unknown third parties. He also said that the companies fail to provide sufficient disclosures of information upon consumers request.<\/p>\n

On the other side, the AppFolio does not admit any wrongdoing said against it in the lawsuit. But, the company agrees for settlement to protect from the unwanted cost of continuing litigation.<\/p>\n

Under the settlement, AppFolio agreed to make changes in their procedure of screening reports and better disclosures. The Class Members will be able to get a portion of the settlement with the specific amount determined by the number of valid claims filed.<\/p>\n

Class Members have until May 10, 2019, to file a valid claim. The objection and exclusion deadline for the settlement is May 10, 2019. The final approval hearing is scheduled for July 18, 2019.<\/p>\n
