Ross stores have agreed for payment of $4.85 million to settle the class action of deceptive pricing methods, filed against them.

The class action was filed in June 2015 by a consumer who stated that the retailer’s “compare at” prices on sales tags were misleading. The stored promised named brand items for 20-60% less than usual departmental stores, but the price tags informed only the reference price. They did not reflect the actual costs of the same products at other stores.

The lawsuit covered all the members who purchased items with “compare at” tags from the store since June 20, 2011 and have not received any refund or credit of that purchase.

The case settled with payment of $4.85 million, in 2018, providing the eligible customers a chance to recover a Ross merchandise certificate or 75% of merchandise’s value in cash. The certificate you get can be used as store credit, but its cost will vary depending upon the number of class members.

Additionally, lead plaintiffs of the class action can recover $5000 reward for their services, and the class counsel will get up to 25% of the total settlement fund as attorney fees and court costs.

All the eligible customers have till May 31, 2019, to file a claim or opt out of the settlement.
