In April 2018, the consumer reports have agreed to settle a class action lawsuit for $16.4 million. So, the Michigan residents who have purchased a subscription to consumer reports, between April 2010 and October 2016 are eligible to recover an amount of $180 from $16.4 million through consumer reports class action settlement.

The consumers who are eligible for the settlement fund include the ones who have subscribed to consumer reports online, consumer reports, and consumer reports on ShopSmart, Newsletter or MoneyAdvisor. However, the purchase should be done between April 1, 2010, and October 31, 2016.

The plaintiffs have made an allegation that consumer reports have shared the personal information (including names, age, gender, address, income, religion, ethnicity, and religion) of subscribers to their publications. Their claims also say that the reports have also shared the contact details of customers, and then the consumers got a lot of telecalls and junk mails.

Moreover, this settlement also has claimed that the consumer reports have also violated the Michigan Preservation of Personal Privacy Act. So, under this settlement, the class members who will submit a claim are eligible to receive a settlement fund of $180. This amount will also cover the costs that include an award to the representative, attorney and administrator fees.

However, the class members will only have until Jan 17, 2019, to submit a claim. The class members can submit a claim through mail or online.
