Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan under the Hospital Costs Settlement now agrees to pay $30 million to settle a class action lawsuit that alleged them on various clauses. The clauses say that they violated some of the contracts in terms of anti-laws and rising prices for medical care at certain hospitals in Michigan.

If you have paid for the medical services at the Michigan Hospital between Jan’1, 2006 and June 3, 2014, you will be entitled to the settlement charges.

In October 2010, the Department of Justice and the State of Michigan took legal action against this matter and had claimed that the insurer had the market power in 17 different markets in Michigan. In the same month, a class action lawsuit was also made over the anti-competitive provisions.

However, the Plaintiffs have alleged that the most favored provisions have inflated the overall prices at certain Michigan hospitals. However, Blue Cross denies any wrongdoing. But they have agreed to settle the class action lawsuit in order to avoid the overall inconvenience and litigation. Therefore, according to an estimate, the claims of Hospital Costs Settlement will recover more than 25% of the overcharges that are paid by them.

The whole BCBSM settlement had its approval on April 17, 2018.

Moreover, class Members who would like to opt out from this settlement must do it no later than September’16, 2018.
